The beautiful walkable European holiday destination with barely any tourists
A breathtakingly beautiful holiday destination in North Macedonia is perfect for a spring holiday and Britons will find it far less crowded than other popular hotspots.
It might feel like January is dragging on forever but spring is just around the corner and it’s the perfect time to book a holiday.
If you’re looking for something a little different from a standard beach holiday, why not consider a lakeside break?
While popular hotspots such as Lake Geneva and Lake Garda tend to get crowded during the spring, there’s another beautiful European country that’s still something of a hidden gem.
Lake Ohrid in breathtaking North Macedonia is one of Europe’s oldest and deepest lakes and it’s also one of the continent’s cheapest destinations.
Ohrid is a pretty town with over 360 churches and it’s easy to explore on foot. The walkable town has its fair share of hills but there’s no need to rent a car to get around.
The enchanting town sits on the shores of the lake and tourists will find plenty of hotels and B&Bs with lakeside views.
Lakeside restaurants, bars and cafes are also relatively inexpensive and it’s possible to enjoy a cappuccino by the water for around £1.
One of the best activities to do in Lake Ohrid is to take a boat trip across the crystal clear water.

There’s a range of trips on offer and tourists can also visit The Bay of Bones, a reconstructed stilt village with Bronze age artefacts on display.
In the town, there’s so many pretty monasteries and churches to visit. Don’t miss the Church of St John, which has some of Europe’s most breathtaking sunset views.
Despite its beauty, North Macedonia is currently one of Europe’s least visited countries and Ohrid doesn’t feel overcrowded.
While the enchanting town only has a small airport, British tourists can book an all-inclusive trip with TUI, including flights to Ohrid airport.
