Roman Reigns lifts lid on leukaemia hell after SmackDown shock: Felt like a death sentence
ROMAN REIGNS states that leukaemia feels like a “death sentence” following his four-month battle with cancer.
WWE: Roman Reigns discusses his return to Raw
Reigns shocked the WWE Universe and world of sport last October when he announced his diagnosis and relinquished the Universal Championship to take time off for treatment.
That was The Big Dog’s second struggle with the horrible disease as he first dealt with it in 2008 but fortunately put it in remission very quickly.
The four-time world champion says it felt like a death sentence when the doctors told him he had leukaemia 11 years ago.
The ex-WWE Champion’s first struggle made him feel frightened and alone when the terrible disease returned last year as he also got worried for his wife and three children.
Leukaemia feels like a death sentence
But the former Universal Champion realised that everyone is fighting their own battles and it was that connection that helped him put the cancer in remission last February.
Reigns told Sports Illustrated: "Leukaemia feels like a death sentence.
"That's how I felt when I was first diagnosed 11 years ago.
“This time, knowing what I'd been through, I immediately felt frightened and alone.
"I heard that word, leukaemia, again.
"As a father, husband and provider, I was terrified.
"I want people to know it's the struggle that brings us all together.
"We're all fighting some battle.
"Someone is out there connecting with you during your fight, even if you don't realise it.
“If my story can somehow inspire someone to push another hour, or go through another treatment, then everything I went through was all worth it."
Reigns has returned to action full time and is now set to become the face of SmackDown after joining the blue brand from RAW in a stunning move.
