On Saturday night, McGregor surprisingly took aim at his former opponent in an Instagram post.
The aforementioned post included a picture of the Irishman palming Holloway in the face during their April 2015 bout.
The accompanying caption read: "When there is no referee to save you."
The timing of McGregor's latest dig at Holloway didn't go unnoticed by MMA fans as it came shortly after it was announced the Hawaiian had withdrawn from his UFC 222 bout with Frankie Edgar with a leg injury.
It didn't take too long for McGregor's recent Instagram post to catch the eye of Holloway, who issued a perfect response.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, 'Blessed' posted a picture of the UFC lightweight champion being held by referee Robert Byrd moments after his tenth-round TKO loss to Floyd Mayweather.

The pair's back-and-forth with one another has inevitably led to talk of a rematch coming to fruition.
McGregor's head coach John Kavanagh admits it could be a possibility but doesn't foresee the matchup taking place in the featherweight division.
“I don’t (see him returning to the featherweight division),” the SBG Ireland head coach told Express Sport. “That would be my honest answer on that.
