Conor McGregor slammed by Tony Ferguson
Interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson believes Conor McGregor isn’t interested in defending his lightweight title.
“As far as what they told me in the contract, that’s what they were telling me. They were saying, ‘Look, you guys are fighting for the undisputed title,’” Ferguson said during an appearance on The MMA Hour.
“That was right before they told me that I was going to fight Conor McGregor. And then just a whole bunch of s**t just went down, and I was like, ‘You know what, I have a manager to help me deal with this.’
"But in speculation, what happened was they offered me a fighter that didn’t want to fight.
"I don’t know if it was a contract issue or what it was, but the dude didn’t seem interested. He doesn’t seem interested, to the public and to anybody else, to defend his belt.
“Management presented me with the opportunity and the contract, and they told me the benefits and the negatives if I was going to sign up for it, and then I was like, ‘Well s**t man, is this b*tch going to even sign up?’
"They were like, ‘Probably not. Nope. He’s too busy,’ or some bullsh*t, whatever. Not even in their words.”
He might never fight again
Conor McGregor’s coach unsure of return date
Straight Blast Gym Ireland head coach John Kavanagh doesn’t know when ‘The Notorious’ will return to the Octagon.
“The landscape changes so much, so quickly when different offers come in,” Kavanagh said during a Facebook live interview to promote Wimp 2 Warrior when asked to give an update on the UFC's lightweight champion
“But if you were to put a gun to my head and ask me to say what’s next, I’d say it’s the UFC and it will be this year [that Conor McGregor returns].
“There’s so much happening in the division and things changing around and what have you. I can’t say who, I can’t say when but as people who follow him on social media will see, he’s back, very motivated, training a lot. He’s in the gym every day.
“The plan seems to be forming and getting more exact every day that [he’ll be] back in the UFC this year. When and against who, I would be just guessing.”
