The UFC’s lightweight champion has a murderer’s row of fighters vying to welcome him back to the Octagon, which he hasn’t graced since his historic UFC 205 victory over Eddie Alvarez 14 months ago.
Currently in pole position to fight McGregor next is interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson, who has been publicly campaigning for a bout with ‘The Notorious’ since defeating Kevin Lee at UFC 216.
Dagestan native Khabib Nurmagomedov is also in the frame to fight McGregor following his UFC 219 victory over Edson Barboza.
Both Ferguson and Nurmagomedov put on impressive displays in their last outings inside the Octagon, which have made believe they will cause McGregor big problems.
McGregor has kept a close eye on the pair and the rest of the fighters in the lightweight division during his time away from the UFC.
And it’s safe to say he hasn’t been impressed by what he’s seen of the 155lbs division’s chasing pack.
“Fighting pure is a different gravy,” the 29-year-old said in an Instagram post after officially announcing his return to training.

“You cannot test me in a straight fight. Nobody on this earth can. Trust me.
“I am not just the greatest at this. I am the double greatest.”
At this moment in time, it’s currently unknown when McGregor plans on returning to the UFC.

The UFC brass are keen on having their poster boy fight in March, but ‘The Notorious’ seemingly has other plans.
“I don’t think Conor wants to fight until August,” White told Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole.
“If he waits until August or September, that’s around two years since the belt has been defended and that can’t happen.”
