Conor McGregor retirement: The Notorious told to QUIT UFC after Khabib Nurmagomedov defeat
CONOR MCGREGOR should RETIRE after his UFC 229 loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
That is the view of heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis.
Lewis is rumoured to be facing Daniel Cormier on November 3 for the UFC heavyweight title, having knocked out Alexander Volkov in the third round of their fight on the UFC 229 undercard.
After his knockout win, Lewis gained more than 600,000 followers on Instagram and 35,000 on Twitter, thanks to his hilarious post-fight interview.
On Monday, he told TMZ Sports that if he made the same amount of money McGregor made, he would quit, and offered the same advice for ‘The Notorious’.
McGregor stands to make close to £38m ($50m) from Saturday’s fight, which he lost via fourth-round submission.
“There isn’t much he could really do, he has nothing left to prove,” ’The Black Beast’ explained.
“He has made more money than I could ever make in the sport, so he’ll probably just sit his a** down too.
“I would (retire).
“He made life-changing money, he doesn’t have to fight.
“I’m fighting to take care of my family, I don’t fight because I just love it that much.
“I’m fighting just because it’s a job for me.
“(If I ever got the $50m cheque) I’m cutting off family members, everybody, cutting everybody off, I’d probably even get a divorce.”
Lewis also explained why he hopes Nurmagomedov isn’t punished too harshly by the UFC for his post-fight actions.
“No, he didn’t really do anything,” he said.
“He just jumped into the stands, he didn’t hit that guy (Dillon Danis), that guy started hitting him.”
