A little over a year after his much-maligned boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr, Conor McGregor has reflected on his maiden voyage into the squared circle.
“One year ago today I adhered to a load of rules, for a load of riches,” the former UFC lightweight champion said in an Instagram post this past weekend. “Not today though.
“Today was no rules. Just a fight. A proper one. For nothing more than peace, and peace of mind.”

UFC president Dana White has likened McGregor to boxing legends Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson due to his star power.
“He’s my [Muhammad] Ali. He’s my [Mike] Tyson,” White said last week. “He burst onto the scene and I knew the minute I sat down and had dinner with him that this kid was going to be a star.
“I didn’t know if he’d be able to fight and I didn’t know if he’d be able to win a title, but I knew he was going to be a star.”

White has predicted that McGregor’s UFC 229 showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov will garner two million pay-per-view buys.
“Obviously, I think this fight will be massive,” White told The BBC MMA Show. “This will be the biggest fight we’ve ever done on pay-per-view, for sure.
“We were projecting that this thing does two million buys. “It will be massive, it will be fun.
“The Irish will be there, which always makes it fun.
"There’s going to be a lot of Russian’s there and a lot of UFC fans.”
McGregor's grudge match with Nurmagomedov headlines UFC 229, which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on October 6.
