Conor McGregor vs Khabib: Khabib’s father breaks silence on Notorious' UFC 229 dig
CONOR MCGREGOR - Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap has broken his silence on Conor McGregor’s dig at him.
GSP: I would put my house on Khabib defeating McGregor
McGregor took aim at Nurmagomedov’s dad on Friday afternoon, kicking off the mind games between himself and the lightweight champion.
Alongside a screenshot of Al Iaquinta’s video from inside the bus he attacked at the UFC 223 media day in Brooklyn, which showed Nurmagomedov in the background, McGregor wrote: “@abdulmanap.nurmagomedov I can see you.
“Cowering behind fake respect. Just like your middle child. A quivering coward.”
McGregor’s comments were put to Abdulmanap by MMA Team Dagestan on Saturday night.
And somewhat surprisingly, the renowned Dagestani coach had very little to say on the matter.
“On this occasion, I do not give comments,” Abdulmanap said when asked for his thoughts on McGregor’s social media posts.
“The answer to this will (be) give(n) by Khabib.”
McGregor will challenge Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title in less than six weeks time in the main event of UFC 229.
On this occasion, I do not give comments. The answer to this will (be) give(n) by Khabib.
The dig at his successor at the summit of the lightweight division and his father was the first shot McGregor fired since the announcement of his eagerly-anticipated return to the cage.
‘The Notorious’ followed up that taunt with another slant at Nurmagomedov and his team-mate Zubaira Tukhugov, who was part of the group that cornered his good friend Artem Lobov a few days before the UFC 223 bus attack.
Alongside an Instagram picture of Tukhugov, McGregor wrote: “A true Chechen would never assist in a Dagestani led attack on another Chechen.
“A true Chechen would never take orders from a Dagestani man.
“This is treason. There is no worse than treason.”
McGregor, 30, hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon since claiming the lightweight title nearly two years ago in the main event of UFC 205, where he became the promotion’s first simultaneous two-weight world champion.
Ireland’s first UFC belt holder, 21-3, was relieved of the title in April due to inactivity.
Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, last fought at UFC 223, where he succeeded McGregor atop of the 155lbs division with a unanimous decision victory over Al Iaquinta.
