Katie Swan makes Love Island and Serena Williams revelation at Wimbledon
KATIE SWAN refuses to get carried away with her stunning start at Wimbledon as she celebrated success by watching popular TV programme Love Island.
Wimbledon: Katie Swan will celebrate by watching Love Island
Swan, 19, is competing at the All England Club for the second time as a professional and she made an incredible start on Monday.
The British hopeful beat Irina-Camelia Begu, who is ranked 165 places above her, 6-2, 6-2.
Swan is first on Court 3 this morning and she takes on No 29 seed Mihaela Buzarnescu.
It is by far the biggest moment of her young career to date but she is keeping her feet firmly on the ground – just like she did following her surprising first-round win.
Maybe a bit of the Love Island – I never miss it
“Maybe a bit of the Love Island – I never miss it,” she said of her celebration plans.
“I’m staying in a house just five minutes away in Wimbledon with my family, my parents and my brother, and Diego [Veronelli – Swan’s coach] is there as well,” she said.
“I don’t know if my friends are still here. Some really close family friends and my best friend from school came up today.
“Hopefully I can see them a little bit.”
Swan also explained that she took her motivation from legendary player Serena Williams.
“Seeing Serena [Williams] and Aga [Radwanska], it just made me want to play more seriously,” Swan added.
“From then on playing on Centre Court was something that I dreamed of doing.”
