Roger Federer: BBC apologise to Swiss star after Wimbledon slip-up live on air
ROGER FEDERER received an apology from BBC tennis host Sue Barker after a slip of the tongue on air.
Sue Barker apologises to Federer after on-air blunder
Barker is presenting live coverage from Queen’s Club this week where they are playing all four quarter-final matches today.
But when the live BBC 2 coverage began the host unintentionally said Marin Cilic against Sam Querrey was a repeat of the Wimbledon final from last year.
In truth, Federer beat Cilic in straight sets to lift his eighth title at the All England Club.
But Barker was quick to apologise to the Swiss star before continuing her excellent preview of the day’s play alongside pundit John Lloyd.
Apologies to Roger Federer
“Today we have four fascinating matches to look forward to,” Barker said.
“First up it is a repeat of last year’s Wimbledon final, semi-final, excuse me.
“Apologies to Roger Federer.
“A repeat of the semi-final as Cilic takes on Querrey here.”
Barker and Lloyd continued to analyse the day’s action which involved a number of star players.
Cilic was first on court against Querrey and they are followed by Nick Kyrgios’ clash with Feliciano Lopez.
Novak Djokovic then takes the prime slot on Centre Court when he plays Adrian Mannarino.
Jeremy Chardy against Frances Tiafoe closes proceeding.
And BBC 2 will be showing live coverage until 6pm.
