Rafael Nadal very anxious and doesn't know if he can play at ATP World Tour Finals - Croft
RAFAEL NADAL is very anxious and does not know if he will be fit enough to play in the ATP World Tour Finals this week.
Rafael Nadal does not know if he will be fit for the ATP World Tour Finals, says Croft
That is according to Sky Sports tennis pundit and former British No 1 Annabel Croft.
Nadal comes into this week’s tournament at London’s O2 Arena with a cloud over his fitness.
The World No 1 had to pull out of the Paris Masters two weeks ago because of a knee injury.
Nadal is set to play against Belgian David Goffin in his opening game of Group Sampras this evening (not before 8pm).
There was a slightly downbeat, slightly subdued Rafael Nadal out there.
However, Croft has heard that the Spaniard is worried that he will not be ready for this week’s action.
She admits the anxiousness has transformed to everyone in and around the O2 Arena.
“Yes I do actually (think there is some anxiety about the place),” Croft said on Sky Sports.
“I think yesterday when he went out on court to receive that year-end, World No 1 trophy, there was a slightly downbeat, slightly subdued Rafael Nadal out there.
Rafael Nadal comes into the ATP World Tour Finals with a knee injury
“I didn’t think there was a lot of joy about him and I think word around the O2 Arena here is that he is very anxious.
“I don’t think he knows himself until he goes out there tonight to play against Goffin to how that knee is going to feel.
“It’s such a shame isn’t it, after such an incredible season, six titles, two more Grand Slams.
“So, mixed feelings at the moment, and I think as you say, anxiousness all-round.”
