Novak Djokovic already has another tournament lined up after shock US Open exit
Novak Djokovic is expected to be back in action later this month after crashing out of the US Open.
Novak Djokovic is already looking ahead after being shocked in the third round of the US Open. The world No. 2 suffered his earliest Grand Slam exit in more than seven years, going out to Alexei Popyrin on Friday night.
Djokovic is set to play the Masters 1000 events in Shanghai and Paris before the end of the year. But he has added another tournament to his schedule.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion has been named in Serbia’s Davis Cup squad for their upcoming World Group I stage tie, according to Novosti. Serbia will host Greece at the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in Belgrade from September 14 to 15.
Team captain Viktor Troicki announced the players to face Greece later this month, calling up Djokovic, Miomir Kecmanovic, Dusan Lajovic and Hamad Medjedovic. The world No. 2 could be set for a blockbuster showdown with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the match between each team’s No. 1 players.
The ATP world No. 11 is also expected to represent his nation in the world cup of men’s tennis later this month. Like Djokovic, Tsitsipas suffered an early exit at the US Open, crashing out in the first round.

Djokovic has previously declared that playing for his country is one of his priorities. Twelve months ago, Serbia got to the group stage and earned a spot in the Davis Cup Finals, giving them a chance to fight for the title. But they lost in the semi-final to Italy, with Djokovic blowing three match points to Jannik Sinner in the second singles match.
Serbia was 1-0 up but Italy came from behind to win 2-1 as Sinner beat Djokovic in singles before teaming up with Lorenzo Sonego to take out Djokovic and Kecmanovic in the decisive doubles.

This year, the Serbian squad find themselves fighting to stay in World Group I. Djokovic did not join the team for their qualifier tie earlier this year and Serbia lost to Slovakia despite being the No. 2 seeded country, meaning they failed to advance to the group stage.
The winners of the World Group I weekend will have another chance to compete in the qualifiers next year. But the losing nations will go into a play-off and risk dropping into the lower tier of the competition.
