Coco Gauff's multi-million dollar net worth is a drop in the ocean compared to her US Open opponent and former Olympics room-mate, Emma Navarro. The reigning US Open champion is on course to defend her title at Flushing Meadows this year but will have to get past Navarro when the pair - who've known each other since childhood - clash in the fourth round on Sunday (September 1).

Since bursting onto the scene as a 15-year-old when defeating Venus Williams at Wimbledon, Gauff has since earned over $15million (£11million) in prize money and has clinched lucrative endorsements with the likes of Head, New Balance, and Italian food company Barilla, who also sponsor Roger Federer.

At her tender age of 20, the American star has a reported net worth of $12m (£9.1m) which can only get plumper should she retain her title in New York with $3.6m (£2.7m) on offer for the winner of the tournament. Despite the exorbitant numbers Gauff has achieved financially in her career, it is but a mere minute figure compared to Navarro's net worth, given her billionaire background.

The 23-year-old is the daughter of billionaire businessman Ben Navarro, who earned his riches through Sherman Financial Group of which he is the founder and chief executive officer. According to Forbes, Navarro has a net worth of $1.5bn (£1.1bn) with the tennis ace the heiress to the family fortune.

The New York native has earned a hefty amount of cash from her time on the court, banking over $2m (£1.5m) in prize money while also representing the United States in the Olympics last month alongside Gauff, where the pair were room-mates in the Olympic Village.

Gauff previously revealed to have known Navarro since they were kids but drifted apart when they went to different colleges. "She’s great. I have known her since I was young, basically since I started playing tennis,” Gauff told reporters. “We are very friendly with each other, I wouldn’t say we are close friends, because we grew up but then we kind of split as we went to college."

Following their Olympic adventure, Navarro gave an inside look at their experiences in Paris, admitting that she couldn't endure the Village for the entirety of the time they spent in Paris. "We shared kind of like apartment, dorm-style apartment at the Olympic Village,” Navarro said.

"We were roommates for a few days, we kind of had a running joke that the people that stayed in the Village as opposed to going to the hotel were digging. They were digging it out, digging really deep. I dug as long as I could, but I eventually had to move to the hotel because I wasn't really sleeping too much at the Village. Coco dug it out all week."
