Rafael Nadal has Carlos Alcaraz concerns as duo pair up at 2024 Olympics
Rafael Nadal is set to compete alongside Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 Olympics.
Rafael Nadal has revealed that he has not been able to properly prepare for competing at the Paris Olympics alongside Carlos Alcaraz before today.
The duo are set to join forces to represent Spain in the men’s doubles draw over the coming days, an event in which they are unseeded for – with Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti combining to become top seed.
Fresh off of his victories at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, Alcaraz heads to Paris in blistering form and the 21-year-old will be hoping to cap off an incredible season with a gold medal whilst representing his nation.

Alongside Nadal, widely regarded as one of the greats of the game, Spain will be one of the favourites to land the spoils in the men’s doubles – but Nadal has already spoken about his concerns heading into the event.
Speaking to Eurosport ES, he explained: “It's a great experience to be at the Games, the largest sporting event in the world. I appreciate being here and it's a prize.
“This will be the last Olympics for me. I've missed two (London 2012 and Tokyo 2020) and it hurt me more than missing a Grand Slam. Beijing 2008 was bigger than the Grand Slam. You feel part of something bigger. The feeling of returning with a medal to the Village is unforgettable.
"We have maintained a good relationship, an opportunity to get to know each other better and live together. Being with him rejuvenates you. It's nice to see someone like Carlos live his first Olympic Games. We will do our best.
“We have not been able to prepare ourselves like the other great pairings who are here. We are going to train a little together today and see if the draw helps.”
Nadal and Alcaraz’s lack of preparation may be cause for concern with the former, but the 22-time Grand Slam winner may lean on the confidence of his newfound partner when the going gets tough in France.
Alcaraz does not appear to be concerned about the lack of training, as such, and is focusing more on adapting his style to suit playing doubles.
He said: “I'm really looking forward to being at my first Games and being with Rafa. Returning to Roland-Garros makes it easier.
“We're going to give it our best and hopefully we can enjoy a great Olympics. I have less experience and I hope I can adapt quickly to playing doubles.
“I like playing it, but I've never been able to because of the singles. I can learn everything from Rafa. That way of competing, of fighting, and that humility off the court."
