Andy Murray has been told by rival British tennis star Liam Broady that there are “five people just to wipe your bum” during a heated exchange on social media. Broady had earlier complained about the breakfast arrangements ahead of his Atlanta Open qualifier against Shang Juncheng.

Murray is one of the finest British players of all-time and will finish his playing career with two Wimbledon titles and the US Open to his name as well as two Olympic gold medals.

But he was still put in his place by 30-year-old Broady, who has never gone beyond the third round of a Grand Slam.

Ahead of his clash on Saturday, Broady took to X and wrote: “First match at 10am today so have to warm up at 8:30. Breakfast doesn’t open till 9am? Walked into player area and we’ve got… bagels. Really good for a high standard of tennis and tennis tournament in Atlanta.”

Murray replied by saying: “Hope you are okay mate. That sounds terrible. Surprised you hadn’t checked the breakfast situation ahead of time like most professionals would have done.”

Broady was clearly annoyed with Murray's remark and hit back by hissing: “You have five people just to wipe your bum for you man. You’ve never checked a situation ahead of time in your life, we are not the same.”

Murray then responded by posting an emoji of a fishing rod to suggest Broady had taken his bait.

Broady, who is currently ranked at No. 206 in the world, was handed a wildcard at Wimbledon last month but was dumped out of the tournament in the first round after losing to Botic van de Zandschulp in four sets.

The player stunned Casper Ruud in the second round last year, before losing to Denis Shapovalov and also reached the third round in 2022 ahead of a straight sets defeat to Alex de Minaur.

But he could miss out on a place in this year’s US Open, having never qualified for the final Grand Slam of the calendar year.

Murray, meanwhile, waved goodbye to the Wimbledon crowd earlier this month following a doubles defeat to Rinky Hijikata and John Peers alongside his brother Jamie. The 37-year-old is set to retire from the sport following the Paris Olympics.

“It is hard,” Murray said after his final Wimbledon defeat. “I would love to keep playing but I can't.

“Physically it is too tough now. All the injuries have added up. I would love to play forever, It has given me so much. It has taught me so many lessons, I don't want to stop. It is hard.”
