Clare Balding found herself in an unfortunate spot ahead of Carlos Alcaraz's Wimbledon semi-final clash against Daniil Medvedev as she was whacked on the head with a tennis ball.

The BBC presenter was live on air throwing to the commentary team for the first men's semi-final match of the day when she was hit during practice.

Balding had been courtside, previewing the contest with Tim Henman before he raced to join the comms booth.

The cameras weren't on the BBC pundit as she wrapped things up at the conclusion of the player warm-up to hand the baton over to Henman and co up in the box. But she was suddenly struck by a tennis ball during her live link.

"This promises to be an intriguing match, the first of our two men’s semi-finals Daniil Medvedev against Carlos Alcaraz…" she started.

But ever the professional. Balding wasn't thrown off when she was whacked on the head. "Todd Woodbridge is already in the commentary box, I have just got hit on the head with a tennis ball," she laughed.

"Tim Henman is on his way to join them, Andrew Cotter is leading the way."

Balding took over as the lead presenter of the BBC's Wimbledon coverage last year after Sue Barker stepped down. And she has been enjoying having some extra editions to the punditry team this year with Nick Kyrgios and Ash Barty joining in.

But the broadcaster might have to watch out for another rogue ball during the warm-up for Novak Djokovic's showdown with Lorenzo Musetti, as she has been making fun of Djokovic's recent on-court interview over the last few days.

Djokovic faced Holger Rune in the fourth round and claimed that chants of "Ruuuune" were actually boos. He told the crowd "gooooood night" as he mocked them in his on-court interview.

The next day, at the top of the broadcast, Balding told viewers: "Well hello and gooooooood day from Wimbledon, oh yes, Chanda Rubin, John Lloyd and myself will be discussing that and we will be hearing from Novak Djokovic, after he had realised what the crowd were chanting."

She was at it again while presenting alongside Henman and Kyrgios. "My one fear for this is Novak Djokovic faces a man called Muuuuusetti!" she remarked, earning laughs from both experts.
