Neighbours star Ryan Moloney confirms he's taking break from show

Neighbours is set to air some of its most ambitious episodes in the show's history with its upcoming Death In the Outback week.

The dramatic storyline also marks the end of Ryan Moloney's tenure on the soap after almost 30 years playing Toadie Rebecchi.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the star reflected on his character's exit and admitted he is "at peace" with his exit. “I’m quite alright really," he says in one of his last interviews before hanging up the character for good.

Speaking about the events of the high octane week, which ends with him hovering between life and death as his life flashes before him, the actor acknowledged it was a good way to bow out. "His world kind of flashes before his eyes...and he's kind of almost at peace.

"He's ready to say goodbye to the world. So I think it was a wonderful, wonderful way to see the character out,” he reflected.

The intense week on the Australian soap sees Toadie turn action hero for his final scenes as he and Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden) head to the outback to try and save Holly Hoyland (Lucinda Armstring Hall) from Heath Royce (Ethan Panizza).

While, as the title suggests, there is indeed a death in the Outback, Ryan remains tight lipped on whether Toadie leaves under his own steam or in a coffin.

"I think it's a wonderful kind of journey for the character," Ryan said. "It's onto the new adventures [for me], which will be coming over to the UK in a few weeks for Toad On The Road.

"So I'm looking forward to being able to see everybody and say goodbye to all the fans in person," he said.

Toad on the Road is Ryan's one man show which will see him engage with fans and kicks off in Birmingham on September 3.

Clearly grateful for the support of his UK fans over the years, he added: "Thanks for bringing it [Neighbours] back, and thanks for all the love that you've shown over the last 30 years.

"And I just really hope that you love these episodes, because I think they're going to be something really special. I think it's going to be hard for them not to be special.

Waxing lyrical about the Death in the Outbook episodes, Ryan said he thinks fans will love not only the Outback setting but also the work of all the cast and crew. "I think the viewers are going to absolutely love this," he gushed.

Neighbours Death In The Outback week airs from Monday August 19. New episodes are released on Amazon Freevee from Monday to Thursday.
