Andy Murray’s wife Kim has been a key figure in his box throughout his career. They first went public in 2006 when he ran and kissed her to celebrate lifting his maiden title.

She later went viral for her hair and style while cheering him on to his first Wimbledon title in 2013. And Kim was back on the Centre Court terrace to watch the former world No. 1 play his last match at SW19 last month in the doubles with his brother Jamie.

But she didn’t travel to Paris for the Olympics, her husband’s last ever tournament, and has now explained why.

Murray entered the men’s doubles draw with Dan Evans and they went on a thrilling run to the quarter-finals before losing to Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul of the USA. The Brits saved five consecutive match points in the first round and two more in their second match before falling in the last eight.

But Kim was noticeably absent from their box throughout the Paris 2024 Games. And she revealed that she didn’t even make the trip to France because she had her hands full with their kids.

“I’ve got four children under eight and it’s the start of the summer holidays, so no, I’ve been here,” she told The Telegraph. Murray’s mum Judy has been at his matches but it’s been so easy feat, and Kim wouldn’t be able to copy her crazy travel schedule while looking after her children.

She added: “Anyway, it would have been a ballache to get there. Judy had been taking 6am flights on the days he had matches and coming back at 10pm. Obviously I couldn’t do that. And for me, nothing can beat the 2012 Olympics.”

Kim has been following along from home with their eldest daughter, eight-year-old Sophia, who recently started watching her dad’s matches. But Murray’s wife was too occupied when he tried to reach her after the last win of his career when he and Evans beat Belgium’s Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen.

“He’s walking down this street in Paris, everyone is trying to take selfies with him, but I was in the middle of a nit crisis with my eight-year-old daughter Sophia. So I didn’t have much time to talk,” she explained.

“The match finished late, the children are exhausted. Sophia has only just got into watching him on TV and can’t contain her emotions. So watching Andy play tennis is now even more stressful than before.”

Luckily, there will be no more of that stress. Murray is officially a former tennis player rather than an active one, evidenced by his bio on X (formerly known as Twitter) which he quickly changed to read: “I played tennis.”
