BBC Wimbledon pundit Nick Kyrgios has hinted that he could play doubles with Tim Henman one day on the famed SW19 grass, having worked together in the Beeb's commentary booth on the opening day of the tournament.

When asked by host Clare Balding how he felt watching a Wimbledon match up close, having played just one professional tie since October 2022 due to injury, the Aussie teased that he may play with British tennis royalty one day.

“Whether it’s entertaining or causing controversial moments I do miss it a lot," Kyrgios admitted. "Obviously I have been working extremely hard to get back on court and I am very close at the moment.

"To sit in a box and watch a full match was hard but I enjoyed it, I know how special this court is, the crowd, it’s the best event in the world and I can’t wait to be back here and hopefully who knows? I might play some legends doubles with Tim one day.”

Kyrgios was runner-up at Wimbledon in 2022 and played very little tennis since going down to Novak Djokovic in that final, but is putting the work in to make a remarkable comeback to the sport after undergoing a 'secret' surgery in his homeland.

"This has been a really challenging time - the hardest of my career," Kyrgios said earlier this month. "People aren't expecting me to come back, especially after an injury like this, so I would love to do that and play again.”

Kyrgios no longer feels any pain in his wrist, which was considered a small miracle after being told last year that he had suffered a full rupture of the scapholunate ligament.

But an innovative anatomical front and back reconstruction of the wrist allowed his surgeon to first scan Kyrgios’ wrist through animation, locate the injury, before drilling holes in the trapezium, scaphoid, lunate and radius with a material to keep the bones in place.

Kyrgios is confirmed to compete at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in New York ahead of the US Open this year, to be played on August 22/23, in what could be his sporting comeback.

Should he be able to stay fit for the final Grand Slam of the year and the following season, an emotional return to Wimbledon could be on the cards, with or without Henman by his side.
