Dominic Thiem told to do THIS after beating Roger Federer in Indian Wells final
DOMINIC THIEM needs to celebrate his Indian Wells victory with his team, because he is one of the few players to have won a Masters tournament while the ‘big four’ have been playing.
That is the view of Greg Rusedski, former British number one.
Thiem defeated Roger Federer in the Indian Wells final on Sunday to claim his first Masters 1000 title.
Despite losing the first set in California, the Austrian fought back to take the win with a nail-biting finish.
With the third and final set going with serve, Thiem broke the Swiss legend to bring himself within touching distance of victory.
The 25-year-old served the game out to win in style.
And Rusedski insisted that not many players win tournaments when Rafael Nadal, Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have been playing.
For that reason, he instructed Thiem to celebrate properly while he can.
“I hope he celebrates this moment tonight with his team,” he said on the Amazon Prime broadcast.
“This is a special moment he’s going to remember for the rest of his life.
“There are very few players who have won Masters series during the period of the big four, especially beating Roger Federer in the final.
“Go out for a lovely meal with your team, go and have a drink, enjoy the moment.
“When you win this title there’s a surge of emotion coming into your body.
“The nice thing for him is that he has a few extra days to prepare for Miami, so try to cherish those moments.
“I wish I had celebrated my wins more, because you never know when the next one is going to be.
“Reflect on your career, you’ve got to make these sorts of wins special in your life.”
