Roger Federer sends fans CRAZY with INCREDIBLE shot during Indian Wells final
ROGER FEDERER sent fans into meltdown during the Indian Wells final against Dominic Thiem as he produced a sensational shot in the first set.
The 37-year-old was sublime in the Californian sun and took the first set 6-3.
But it was when he was leading 3-1 that he really turned on the style.
After his own serve, Federer hit a deep forehand that saw Thiem reply with a lobbed shot.
The Austrian's shot looked for a moment it would clear the baseline before it dropped just inside.
Federer managed to recover and then exchanged drop shots with the World number eight, before Thiem once again attempted a lobbed winner.
However, the Swiss returned it in spectacular fashion as he raced to the baseline to play a shot between his legs.
Whilst the shot may have been worthy of winning any game, Thiem hammered the ball home to take the point.
Fans immediately took to Twitter to praise Federer for the ‘tweener’ shot.
“It's so hard not to love #RogerFederer. I don't usually root for him, I like underdogs. And Thiem is excellent! But Roger is Roger. What he can do and how is does it is incomparable to anyone. And he it makes it look SO EASY! There's no way not to love him. He is one of a kind,” one wrote.
Another posted: “Hahahaha.....Dommy making the old man run.....and Rog did the tweener, too.”
“Federer just hit a tweener. He has become a master of that shot. Beautiful serve & volley play by Fed,” one said.
One user wrote: “That tweener point was amazing by #Federer. #Thiem played a good point at #IndianWells”
“How the hell is Federer 37 years old? Just chased down a half volley, lob, volley, tweener. Just wow,” another exclaimed.
Federer took the first set with relative ease, before going 4-1 down in the second.
The Swiss went into Sunday’s final as the fresher of the two men, despite being 12 years his opponent’s senior.
Federer had been set to play Rafael Nadal in the semi-final of Indian Wells on Saturday, only for the Spaniard to withdraw through injury.
Thiem, however, came through a three-set match against Milos Raonic.
