Roger Federer Laver Cup meeting REVEALED: What Federer was told before final day
UNIQUE footage at the Laver Cup has revealed exactly what was said to Roger Federer before the final day.
Federer held a meeting with vice-captain Thomas Enqvist last night to discuss Team Europe's scheduling options.
Team Europe are 7-5 ahead and need to win two of the final four matches to retain the trophy.
Europe had to name their players first and Federer was asked by Enqvist which matches he wanted to play.
The pair were unanimous in the fact that the Swiss would play in the doubles - the first match of the evening - but the question was when Federer would re-emerge to play singles?
Cameras caught Enqvist telling Federer: "Bjorn [Borg, team captain] really wants to have you and Sascha [Alexander Zverev] playing doubles."
Federer agreed before Enqvist asked: "Do you prefer to play back-to-back, to stay warm, or do you prefer to have you on the third singles in case it comes to a decider?"
The 20-time Grand Slam champion was clear that he didn't want to stay off court for long, saying: "I prefer to stay warm and naturally that puts Novak at the end and Sascha in between."
That suggestion worked with Enqvist, who said: "Yeah, that's what Bjorn wants."
"Yeah, that's okay with me. Good. Let's do it," Federer replied.
