Laver Cup ROW: John McEnroe and Nick Kyrgios go MAD at umpire in Roger Federer clash
TENSIONS soared at the Laver Cup on day two with John McEnroe and Nick Kyrgios involved in a heated row with the chair umpire.
Team World's Kyrgios was a set and a break down to Roger Federer when a row kicked off after a dodgy line call.
Down a break point, Kyrgios unleashed a huge serve to the Federer backhand which he could only dump into the bottom of the net.
However, it was initially called out by the line judge, who then corrected himself and called it in.
The ruling from the chair came in Federer's favour - that the call had put the 20-time Grand Slam off and point was to be replayed.
Kyrgios, who was already turning to serve again at deuce, was left stunned when 'first serve' was called and he confronted the umpire alongside angry World captain McEnroe.
While Federer was seen smiling at the back of the court, Kyrgios and McEnroe tore into the official and accused him of making a huge blunder - proving the event is certainly not an exhibition that they couldn't care less about.
But there was to be no persuading the umpire to change his decision and a riled Kyrgios went down to a straight sets defeat.
THE FULL TRANSCRIPT OF THE LAVER CUP ROW
NK: No, no, no.
JM: Was that ball in?
Umpire: You can challenge if you want.
NK: It's not a replay.
JM: Was that called out?
Umpire: You can challenge if it's called out.
JM: Was it called out?
Umpire: No, it's been corrected. It's been called in so there's no reason for you to challenge. Replay the point.
NK: So what are you saying then?
Umpire: Replay the point.
NK: You're telling me the call came before Roger hit it?
Umpire: Yes.
NK: You are delusional.
Umpire: Well, that that's what I think.
JM: Wait, wait, wait. You are saying that call affected his return?
Umpire: It's questionable.
JM: In your opinion, you are saying that call affected his return?
Umpire: There's a small chance yeah.
JM: What, 0.01?
Umpire: Thank you. We're going to replay the point.
JM: Why?
Umpire: Because that's how we do it in tennis.
JM: What chance of him getting that return back?
Umpire: A small chance.
JM: What chance?
Umpire: A small chance.
JM: What? 0.001.
Umpire: I don't know the number. There was a small chance so we're going to replay the point.
