NOVAK DJOKOVIC has been warned he faces a tough match against John Millman in his US Open meeting by Roger Federer.
Novak Djokovic trains with giant racket ahead of US Open
Novak Djokovic had been expecting to come up against Roger Federer in today’s quarter-final clash but will instead be playing world No 55 Millman.
The Australian overcame the world No 2 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 7-6 in the fourth round to reach the quarter-final of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
Federer struggled in the heat and admitted the humid playing conditions probably favoured Brisbane native Millman.
And the Swiss veteran believes Djokovic could be in for similar problems if Millman is at the top of his game in the heat.
I think against Novak, he just has to bring it again, try to worry Novak, hope for another hot day.
“I love his intensity. He reminds me of David Ferrer and those other guys that I admire a lot when I see them, when I see how they train, the passion they have for the game,” Federer said.
“He has options now, especially where it's a bit slower, to return in and return back.
“I think against Novak, he just has to bring it again, try to worry Novak, hope for another hot day.”
Having overcome Federer, Millman is gunning for another big scalp in the shape of pre-tournament favourite Djokovic.
“Yeah, why not?” Millman said when asked if he could beat the 13-time Grand Slam winner.
“Again, I'll have to improve a lot on the last time I played him. He's an incredible player.
“I think he's in some really good form right now, too.
“Yeah, but why not? I think it's a disservice to who I am if I go out there and don't have that belief.”
Who is John Millman?
John Millman is an Australian tennis player, currently ranked at No 55 in the ATP Tour.
He has a career-high ranking of 49 which he achieved earlier this year after beating Bernard Tomic in the final of the Open du Pays d'Aix.
Millman has never passed the third round of a Grand Slam until his ventures into the last 16 at this year's US Open.
The 29-year-old has reached just one ATP final, being beaten by Marco Cecchinato at April's Hungarian Open.
The right-hander has won over $1.8million in his career, with singles and doubles tournaments combined, having began his career in 2008.
