Six Nations: England stars kept in the cold regarding Wales vs Ireland result
ENGLAND players were made to wait to find out if Wales had beaten Ireland to secure the Six Nations title.
Wales beat Ireland 25-7 to complete the Grand Slam and make England's clash with Scotland effectively a dead rubber.
Eddie Jones' side could have claimed the Championship had the Welsh dropped points earlier in the afternoon.
But as that match drew to a conclusion, England were out on the pitch completing their warm-up.
And the announcer at Twickenham did not reveal the score of the match, leaving players and supporters who had taken their seat early in the dark.
England players headed back to the changing room 15 minutes before the 5pm kick-off and presumably would then have been told they cannot win the title.
It is unclear if that will affect their performance when they attempt to extend their 36-year unbeaten run at home to Scotland.
Scotland have only won one of their four Six Nations matches this year.
And England head coach Eddie Jones mocked today's visitors in the build-up to the clash.
"Since 1883? 1983, OK," joked Jones.
"If we impose our game on Scotland it'll be pretty tough for them.
"We're not playing Mars or Pluto, we're playing Scotland.
"They've got passion and play the game a certain way."
Meanwhile, former Wales captain Sam Warburton was delighted his side end their five-year drought.
"That's an amazing victory. Wales have been too good over the past five years not to win a title," he told the BBC.
"There have been some ups and downs but to beat Ireland, the second best team in the world, is phenomenal and I'm so happy for all those involved."
