Jacob Stockdale MOCKED for shocking error in Ireland vs England Six Nations clash
JACOB STOCKDALE was not popular with the Ireland fans following a huge error in their Six Nations opener against England.
England took an early lead through Jonny May but Ireland swiftly took charge with a penalty followed by a brilliant try from Cian Healy.
However, their hard work was undone by a huge mistake from Stockdale 10 minutes before the break.
Elliot Daly sent a teasing grubber kick over the Irish backline for him to chase past the goal line.
The bounce of the ball caught Stockdale off guard and instead of going down safely with two hands, he attempts to tap it to himself to gather the ball and is taken out by Jack Nowell.
Daly is then on hand to gather the loose ball for the easy try to give England a 17-10 lead at half-time.
And Ireland fans were furious with the 22-year-old for his mistake, taking to social media to vent their frustration.
One posted: “B******* to you Stockdale. That’s a horror. A gift to England.”
Another said: “Stockdale. Ohh my goodness. What a poor mistake.”
Others also saw some similarities between Stockdale’s error and the one from Yoann Huget for France against Wales last night.
Huget’s howler in failing to touch the ball down allowed George North through to collect.
“Stockdale with his Huget moment there. England doing so well here. Mitchell’s influence on the breakdown growing with every game,” one Twitter user said.
“Won’t see a mistake worse than Huget this weekend. Stockdale hold my beer,” another posted.
