Kawhi Leonard trade: LA Clippers settle on deal but require major assurance
KAWHI LEONARD could be heading to the LA Clippers this summer - but only on one condition.
Kawhi Leonard and Spurs situation is ‘bizarre’ says ESPN pundit
Leonard is understood to be seeking a move away from San Antonio Spurs.
Relations between the player and team staff are said to be strained after he endured an injury-hit season in 2017/18.
Leonard, a one-time NBA Finals MVP, made himself unavailable for the Spurs during the 2018 playoffs, despite hopes from within the camp that he would have recovered from a lengthy injury by then.
A host of teams are said to be interested in bringing Leonard into their rosters this summer.
A move to the LA Lakers has been mooted.
But the LA Times claim the Clippers are far more likely to get the job done.
In fact, the Clippers have even drawn up a proposal for San Antonio which would involved trading forward Tobias Harris and the 12th or 13th pick of the upcoming NBA Draft.
The deal could look good for San Antonio but the Clippers are still not convinced with Leonard himself.
The report claims they want to make sure the two-time Defensive Player of the Year is fully recovered from his injury.
Any doubt on that and the trade offer could be scrapped.
LEONARD TO LAKERS WORRY
As for the Lakers, their big problem is that they will likely be unable to match the contracts on offer from their trade rivals.
Leonard could reject a $219million supermax contract offer from San Antonio and seek a new team before the start of next season.
