Boston Celtics news: Kyrie Irving shock trade proposal for NBA superstar
THE BOSTON CELTICS would be more prepared to trade Kyrie Irving than Jayson Tatum this summer and could look to land Anthony Davis.
That’s according to legendary Celtics broadcaster Mike Gorman, who claims Boston can get excited about the returns for Irving.
Irving played no part in the Celtics’ playoff run to the Eastern Conference Finals after it was revealed he needed a second knee surgery to remove two screws in his patella.
In his absence, Boston’s young players stepped up during the playoffs to surprise everyone.
Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier both put in stellar performances but it was Boston’s 20-year-old rookie Tatum who stood head and shoulders above the rest.
His fearlessness in the postseason was personified when he posterised LeBron James in the Eastern Conference Finals.
There have been several reports over the past few months suggesting the Celtics could make another huge trade this summer to build on their championship hopes next season.
Tatum and Brown have been discussed as potential trade packages but Gorman believes Danny Ainge would be more inclined to listen to offers for Irving in a potential deal for New Orleans Pelicans star Davis.
"Danny [Ainge] doesn't like to put the untouchable label on anybody.
“I do think [Jayson] Tatum is untouchable myself.
“It would take some unbelievable offer to get him away from Boston right now.
“But I think everyone else is in play to some degree."
He added: “Again, if you’re talking about the big guy from New Orleans [Anthony Davis] then you’re going to have to be talking about a really really, good player going back the other way.
“And that’s the only other player that the Celtics really would put everyone on the table for.”
