FERGAL O'BRIEN will face Mark Selby in the first round of the 2017 World Snooker Championship after securing his spot in the competition with a world-record opening frame.

O'Brien required two hours, three minutes and 41 seconds to dispatch England's David Gilbert 10-9 in the final round of qualification for the World Snooker Championship which starts on Saturday.
But he will now have to prepare himself for a clash with world No 1 Selby, whom he has beaten twice in their six meetings.

Elsewhere, five-time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan will begin his quest for a third title in six years by facing Gary Wilson, the 31-year-old Englishman who was beaten 5-3 by the Rocket in their first ever meeting in Germany back in February.
