Brilliant Rooney saves United
MANCHESTER United have one foot in the Champions League final tonight after a thrilling 3-2 win over AC Milan at Old Trafford.
A stunning 20-yard effort from Wayne Rooney in the last minute, his second goal of the game, gave United the edge in the tie - despite a brace from Milan's brilliant Brazilian Kaka.
Sir Alex Ferguson's men - who were trailing 2-1 at half-time despite Cristiano Ronaldo's early strike - now need just a draw in the San Siro next week to make it a first ever all-English final, against Liverpool or Chelsea, in Athens next month.
An inspirational flicked through-ball from the tireless Paul Scholes set up Rooney for the equaliser on 59 minutes and, after the visitors lost midfield general Gennaro Gattuso with a knee problem, the Premiership side never looked back.
After the win, Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We persevered and I thought some of the football was fantastic. The equaliser ave us the incentive to go and win it.
"We have a magnifiecent chance now, a big, big chance.
"We're in front and Milan know they've got a difficult game now. This is the biggest boost we could have got.
"Paul Scholes was brilliant tonight and some of the football was sheer quality."
