Mark Selby wins frame 155-0 as snooker legend scores more points than 147 maximum

Snooker superstar Mark Selby mustered an incredible feat during International Championship qualifying as he tallied a staggering 155 points in a single frame. The Englishman leads the way centuries-wise this season with 23 and was at it again during his clash with Latvian ace Artemijs Zizins.

18-year-old Zizins, who was the headline act of Q School 2024 when becoming the first snooker professional from Latvia, is making his tour debut this campaign and looked to give world No.4 Selby a fight. The score sat at 2-1 when the match heated up.

Selby was gifted 12 points due to his young opponent fouling on the pink twice, and he began to rattle off a staggering century break – and more.

A 143 break was Selby’s eventual feat after clearing what was left of the table, and accompanied by the points gifted to him by Zizins’ fouls, an impressive 155 score saw him saunter into a 3-1 lead.

Four-time world champion Selby, who recently claimed his first ranking title in over a year at the British Open – comfortably beating John Higgins 10-5 in the final – followed up his 155 with another century break of 103 to lengthen his lead to 4-1.

Zizins managed to pin Selby back at 4-2 but his efforts were to no avail, as the in-form potter ran away with the tie 6-3 to qualify for the International Championship in Nanjing, China – taking place early in November.

Much like his compatriot Judd Trump, Selby has started this new season well and doesn’t look to be slowing down with performances like these. After his first taste of glory in Cheltenham, he opened up to the WST about some of his early season struggles and how he’s improved.

“It’s great. To beat John in any final is a great achievement,” Selby stated after the British Open final against Higgins. “The way I played from start to finish today was really pleasing. The first session was incredible, neither of us hardly missed a pot.

“I got to the hotel and looked at the stats – I was on 98% and he was on 96%. It wasn’t as good tonight, but it was still very, very close.

“I’ve been struggling for a little while. Even in the early part of this tournament, I didn’t play fantastic, I was just scraping through. But then towards the back end of the tournament, I seemed to play a lot better.”
