NFL: Baltimore Ravens power up during Super Bowl win against San Francisco 49ers
BALTIMORE RAVENS survived a power cut then a surge by San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl 34-31 in New Orleans.
The Ravens were 28-6 ahead through three touchdown passes from quarterback Joe Flacco and a record 108-yard kick-off return by Jacoby Jones when the lights went out in part of the Superdome.
The 34-minute delay allowed the 49ers to regroup and they hit back with three touchdowns of their own. But a Justin Tucker field goal and desperate defence saw Ravens coach John Harbaugh lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy instead of brother Jim, the 49ers head coach.
John said: “It’s never pretty, but it’s what we do.”
Linebacker Ray Lewis, who brought the curtain down on a 17-year career, said: “There’s no greater way to ride into the sunset.”
