Gordon Ramsay's role in Adam Peaty transformation since dating his daughter speaks volumes

Adam Peaty, a star of the Paris 2024 Olympics and three-time gold medallist, has opened up about how Gordon Ramsay helped him out of a "deep, dark hole". Despite his impressive track record in Rio and Tokyo, the 29-year-old found himself spiralling into depression and alcoholism after an eight-year unbeaten run ended at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

This coincided with a painful separation from the mother of his son.

Peaty described this period as "three years of hell", but credits his relationship with Holly Ramsay, Gordon's daughter, for helping him get back on track. The pair met while he was competing on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing in 2021.

The swimming legend also revealed how Ramsay, an eight-Michelin star chef, played a pivotal role in his recovery. He transformed from a party-goer to a focused Olympian once again under Ramsay's guidance.

In an interview with The Sunday Times in April, Peaty said: "He [Ramsay] is an incredible energy to be around and an incredible person to have that guidance from. Gordon is a high performer."

"He worked his way up to the upper echelons of his industry and works in a place where there's no bulls**t. I take a lot from that and from the professionalism he has every single day with a relentless pursuit."

"So, when I see that, I'm like, 'Yeah, why can't I work like this? Why can't I do this every single day? Why do I have to be so emotionally engaged with things? '".

Adam and Holly, who started their romantic journey in May 2023, made their relationship public the following month. Later that December, they revealed matching tattoos dedicated to one another.

Peaty, who secured his slot for Paris after clocking his fastest time since 2021 in the British 100m men's breaststroke competition, enjoys a strong relationship with his possible future father-in-law. Ramsay's humorous jibe aimed at him during a conversation prior to the Olympics was taken in good stride by the swimming champ.

The Team GB star was probed by Ramsay about his plans and potential retirement after the Olympics, to which he responded: "Who knows? You're smiling, I'm not going to give you the pleasure. I'm not going to do it. You're trapping me."

Ramsay retaliated with one of his infamously foul-mouthed comebacks: "You're full of s**t! You are definitely not retiring. Absolutely, definitely not retiring."

He even managed to slip in another humorous jibe, adding: "Very best of luck. Don't f*** this up."
