It has captivated audiences for generations, with the title of fastest man and woman on earth often catapulting athletes into Olympic folklore alongside likes of Usain Bolt, Carl Lewis and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

What TV channel will the Olympics 100m final be on?

UK viewers can look forward to comprehensive coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympics, with live broadcasts on BBC One and BBC Two, as well as on Eurosport 1 and 2. Additional viewing options will be available via the red button and BBC iPlayer.

The men's and women's 100m finals are set to be aired live on both BBC One and Eurosport 1.

Who are the contenders for the Women's 100m final?

Team USA's Sha'Carri Richardson is currently the favourite to clinch gold, having impressed at the Olympic trials with a time of 10.71 (for comparison, Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herah won the Tokyo 2020 100m final with a time of 10.61). Richardson was expected to triumph in Tokyo but was disqualified ahead of the Games due to a failed urine test for THC - she was subsequently suspended for one month.

Meanwhile, Jamaica's Shericka Jackson, the bronze medallist from Tokyo, is expected to put up a strong challenge, as is rising star Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia. Jamaican legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who secured gold at Beijing 2008 and London 2012, is also in contention, although at 37, her peak years may be behind her.

Who are the contenders for the Men's 100m final?

Team USA's Noah Lyles is one of the two top favourites for the event. The American sprinter clocked a personal best of 9.81 earlier this year (just 0.01 seconds off the winning time at Tokyo 2020), and some are tipping him to break his own record in Paris.

However, Kishane Thompson, the young Jamaican sprinter, is expected to go toe-to-toe with him. His personal best of 9.77 seconds and his growing rivalry with Lyles have led some to draw comparisons with the legendary Bolt-Gatlin rivalry.

Tokyo gold medallist, Italy's Lamon Marcell Jacobs, is another potential winner, although he may be content with a podium finish. Jamaica's Oblique Seville and USA's Fred Kerley are also expected to be in contention.
