Luke Humphries has talked up his blossoming rivalry with Luke Littler ahead of the US Darts Masters in New York this weekend. The world No. 1 was forced to settle for second place behind the teen sensation in the Premier League last week but is already focused on seeking revenge.

Littler secured an 11-7 win over Humphries at the O2 Arena in London last week, with the mammoth success reducing the 17-year-old to tears as he secured another incredible achievement in his breakthrough year.

The Nuke has impressed with his displays against the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith and Nathan Aspinall – though it is his newfound rivalry with Humpries which has set the world of darts alight.

Humphries has conducted himself eloquently throughout the healthy competition with the teen, and the 29-year-old has shown his class once more when talking about the Premier League final ahead of the US Darts Masters.

He told the PDC: “My main goal was to make the top four and then make the final, and you can’t ask much more of yourself than that. I’ve been in six of the last seven major finals which is absolutely fantastic. It would have been lovely to win it, but I lost to a fantastic performance from Luke.

“I think Luke deserved to be the Premier League champion. It’s 1-1 between us in major finals now and it’s an exciting rivalry to look forward to in the future.”

Humphries is hoping to go one better in The Theater at Madison Square Garden this weekend, having reached the semi-finals of the competition last year. He continued: “Last year was a great experience, but this year I want to win it.

“I’m still going to enjoy the experience because these are fantastic opportunities that we’re very lucky to have, but my headspace is more about winning nowadays than it was last year.

“This is a tournament I would love to win. Madison Square Garden is such an iconic venue, so it would be really special to add this title to my mantelpiece.

“We have a lot to play for over the next two to three months so I want to get back to winning ways, and this is the title out of all the World Series events that I’d love to lift.”
