World Darts Championship prize money: How much can Van Gerwen, Anderson, Price win?
The World Darts Championship is here but how much prize is involved as Michael van Gerwen bids to defend his title?
The stage is set at Alexandra Palace in London for another edition of the World Darts Championship. Michael van Gerwen arrives as the defending champion after getting the better of Michael Smith in last year’s final. The Dutchman collected the top prize of £500,000 and the same figure is on offer once again.
"I just want to win every tournament that I'm competing in, whether I'm defending it or winning for a third time in a row,” said Van Gerwen, 30.
"I love winning in anything I do. Whatever it is I always want to win, whether it's a game of Monopoly or a game of cards.
"The World Championship is the most important one, the one you have to perform in and you get judged on. If you do badly, people write you off but that's how important the World Championship is.
"My preparation is going quite well and I hope I can do some more damage in the tournament."

The World Championship runs for three weeks and a new bonus has been introduced this year.
A huge £100,000 prize is on offer should any player hit two nine-darters in London.
Seven players have hit nine-darters at Ally Pally over the years but nobody has achieved the feat twice in the same World Championship.
PDC Chairman Barry Hearn said: "The standard of top-level darts has continued to soar this year and that's been evident in the record number of nine-darters across the circuit.
"The World Championship is the perfect stage for bringing the best out of players, and this £100,000 bonus for two nine-darters is another huge incentive for a player to make history at Ally Pally."
Van Gerwen will no doubt welcome the bonus after bemoaning a lack of prize money for nine-darters.
Speaking at the Players Championship last month, he said: “I don’t really care. No prize money, nothing.
“I should go for the single eight, to be fair. Just like Ronnie O’Sullivan.”
O’Sullivan has famously passed on scoring a 147 in snooker due to a lack of reward for achieving the feat.
