Lakers news: Anthony Davis waited for THIS to happen before deciding on Pelicans future
ANTHONY DAVIS’ trade demand to the New Orleans had to “get ugly” in order for the forward to get a move to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Anthony Davis trade ‘had to get ugly’ before LA move says pundit
Davis’ Louisiana future was shrouded in doubt following weeks of speculation that he was going to join up with LeBron James in L.A.
The move, however, didn’t happen, and will most likely occur in the summer instead.
And Chris Broussard, who was speaking on Colin Cowherd’s The Herd, believes that in order for Davis to make his move west, the situation would have to turn sour.
“It had to get ugly for Davis otherwise he’d have had to play another year-and-a-half in New Orleans,” he said.
“The only way to get out o there early was to make it messy.
“Anthony Davis' representation Rich Paul would have been happy to make the trade request at the beginning of the season.”
Broussard also noted that Davis waited to see what the season would look like for the Pelicans, before making his decision.
Davis and his team enjoyed a nice play-off run at the end of last season, ultimately losing to the Golden State Warriors in the second round.
“Davis wanted to see what he could do with the Pelicans coming off their nice post-season run last year,” Broussard added.
“Anthony wanted to see what the season would bring before making a trade request.
“The moment he realised the season was going downhill and they were third bottom.
“That’s when he made his trade demand.”
Davis will have to continue his hard work with the Pelicans, however, if he’s to attract the interest of the Lakers again in the summer.
President of basketball operations Magic Johnson made it clear he wanted Davis’ signature.
Lakers star James was also reportedly keen on having ‘The Brow’ link up with him in L.A.
The Pelicans next come up against the Indiana Pacers on Friday evening as they look to get their season back on track.
