Kevin Durant: Warriors star drops hint on future ahead of NBA All Stars clash
KEVIN DURANT has spoken on his future amid rumours he could leave the Golden State Warriors at the end of the season.
Durant: My main concern is being the best player I can be
The two-time NBA Finals MVP is expected to opt out of the final year of his contract and seek a max contract elsewhere.
Durant has said he is happy for Kristaps Porzingis and new Knick DeAndre Jordan after they completed a trade.
The trade opened two max-contract slots for the Knicks leading to more speculation Durant could make a switch.
Asked what he thought of the Porzingis move, Durant said: “I play basketball for the Warriors. My main concern is being the best basketball player I can be.
“I have no concerns about trades or transactions throughout the season with other teams. Has nothing to do with me.
“I’m glad Porzingis is in a better spot for him. I look forward to Luka [Doncic] and him playing together for years to come.”
Durant also had a message for fans who are concerned about his future.
“That’s on them,” he said. “I’ll figure it out once we get to that point.”
Durant has been told he would be making a "silly" decision to leave the Warriors to join the Knicks in free agency by NBA legend Rick Barry.
Kevin Durant: The Knicks are ready to sign him says pundit
“He has a chance to be part of something exceptional, something so special,” he told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.
“Why would you want to leave that when you can have fun playing the game the right way?
“You’re not going to have to be the guy who has to do everything to be able to win.
“You’re going to a place like that your chances of winning are diminished greatly.
“So you’re giving up the chance to be a champion when you were just the two-time MVP in the finals to go and be what? For what purpose?
“To go to New York where you’re going to be under a microscope to a point that you don’t even realise the microscope that you’re going to be under?
“To leave a team where you have so many of these great players?
“I think it would be a silly decision and the wrong decision on his part.”
