Michael van Gerwen couldn't stop himself delivering an expletive as he addressed his poor recent run against Luke Humphries. The darting giants are set for another clash in today's (Sunday) World Series Finals quarter-finals in Amsterdam.

During Saturday's action, Van Gerwen brilliantly averaged 106.17 during his 6-3 win against compatriot Danny Noppert. Meanwhile, Humphries posted a 106.09 average as he edged out Damon Heta 6-5.

Humphries enters the last-eight clash as a favourite given his winning streak over Van Gerwen, which includes a stunning 18-15 victory at the World Matchplay final in July. Following his win over Noppert, when asked about his run of results against Humphries, Van Gerwen told Online Darts: "It's not great, it's f****** shocking."

"I need to change it. I feel good, I feel comfortable. I think I can do a lot of damage tomorrow, especially if I keep playing like this."

Despite his poor recent record against Cool Hand, Van Gerwen remains bullish, suggesting he is still superior to the world number one. The triple world champion added: "He's been the better player in the last few months over me but if we both play our top game, I'm still the better player, and he knows that and that's why he's afraid of [me].

"But I need to show that tomorrow. I can say all I want but I need to show it on the dartboard. I need to keep biting him in the ankles to make sure he falls down."

Humphries was made to work hard for his victory over Heta. It was looking routine as he moved into a 5-3 lead with the darts. Heta dug deep though and dragged himself level at 5-5 with legs in 14 and 13 darts, but a stunning 10-dart leg from Humphries got him over the line in the decider.

“Damon said he wanted a bit of fight from me and that's what I gave him,” said Humphries. “Sometimes the emotion comes out of me and he fired me up tonight. It was a fantastic game of darts and to hit a 10-dart leg under pressure in the decider shows the resolve I’ve got."

Elsewhere, Raymond van Barneveld crashed out to Luke Littler in a 6-4 defeat. The reigning Bahrain and Poland Darts Master, who idolised Van Barneveld as a youngster, was rarely troubled as he set up a quarter-final clash with Chris Dobey.

Daryl Gurney reached his second TV quarter-final of the year as he beat a lacklustre Gerwyn Price 6-3. Peter Wright continued his resurgence as he breezed past Canada’s Jeff Smith 6-2.
