Anthony Davis trade: Lakers and Celtics sent major update ahead of deadline - Woj
ANTHONY DAVIS will not be traded by the New Orleans Pelicans before the February 7 deadline, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
NBA: Pelicans SHOULD trade Anthony Davis, says pundit
Davis’ future continues to dominate headlines in the NBA with more uncertainty on where he will be playing next season.
It has been widely reported that he will reject the supermax contract that New Orleans can offer him in the summer.
But there has even been some suggestion that Davis may try to force a trade before the deadline in three weeks.
The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers are the leading contenders to trade for Davis due to the number of assets they have available to them.
Boston can’t trade for Davis until the summer due to NBA salary cap regulations, giving the Lakers a window of opportunity to get something done now.
However, ESPN reporter Wojnarowski spoke with Davis’ agent who seemed to suggest a trade at the deadline is not on the cards.
"Rich Paul, Anthony Davis' agent, told me they have not had any real substantial discussions about Anthony's future in New Orleans with the Pelicans,” Woj said on ESPN.
“Anthony's focus has been on...the playoff picture.
“There's no promises about his future beyond the trade deadline.
“It's safe to say right now, I think he'll be there beyond the trade deadline.
“New Orleans does not want to trade him.
“They will have to be forced into doing that."
New Orleans know their only real chance of convincing Davis to re-sign will be to make a deep run in the playoffs.
But they may need to strike a deal or two to bring in some other players in the coming weeks to help their case.
The Pelicans are currently 12th in the Western Conference standings, four games back from a playoff spot.
