Anthony Davis: Lakers sent ultimate update on trade ahead of February deadline
ANTHONY DAVIS will NOT be traded by the New Orleans Pelicans this season, ruling out a move to the Los Angeles Lakers.
That’s according to Pelicans reporter Jake Madison, who claims New Orleans have no intention of listening to offers until the summer.
Davis’ future remains a hot topic around the NBA with rumours circulating that he will leave the Pelicans.
New Orleans can offer the 25-year-old a supermax contract in the summer worth $230million, but there has been some suggestion that he might even leave before that is put on the table.
The Lakers have been strongly linked with a move for Davis and speculation has gathered pace in recent weeks.
The Boston Celtics can’t trade for Davis unless they include Kyrie Irving in a potential deal this season due to the “Rose Rule”.
And that has given the Lakers a window of opportunity to make a move with no real competition.
However, Madison reports the Pelicans will not consider any offers for Davis during this season.
“Not this season,” Madison said on the Locked on NBA Podcast.
“I think the earliest a trade would happen is this offseason.
“I get why teams are enquiring now but they’ve been enquiring for years.
“Every time Dell Demps, the general manager, has said: ‘no, this is not happening, I don’t think they have any interest in moving him this year’.
“This is a team that still thinks they can make the playoffs and make some noise in the playoffs.
“Despite the record right now, I think that they feel when they’re healthy… that’s the team they truly have.
“If this offseason comes and then Anthony Davis says he’s not going to sign the supermax or he’s going to look at his options then I think that’s when you’ll look for them to explore trades.
“The way it looks right now, that might be likely but this season no. He’s going to be on the Pelicans that entire year.”
