The tournament will come to a conclusion on Sunday, December 16, with £70,000 and the Stephen Hendry trophy up for grabs.
Neil Robertson was the defending champion, having beaten Cao Yupeng 9–8 in the 2017 final, but was knocked out in the second round.
Ronnie O’Sullivan withdrew from event after winning a record-breaking seventh UK Championship in York last week.
The Rocket was due to play Daniels Wells in the first round, who then received a bye into the last 64.
John Higgins, meanwhile, will be hoping to contend strongly on home soil but will face competition from the likes of Judd Trump, Mark Allen and Shaun Murphy.
