Robinson Cano to New York Mets trade revelation: Talks opened, huge update on MLB deal
ROBINSON CANO could be on his way to the New York Mets in a huge trade deal.
The Seattle Mariners are in talks with the Mets with momentum building towards an agreement.
Cano would be expected to slot in on second base after a season marred by injury and suspension.
But despite them problems the 36-year-old impressed in posting 136 OPS+ in 80 games.
Yahoo Sports man Jeff Passan has given an update on Cano returning to the Big Apple which would see Edwin Diaz move in the opposite direction.
He said: “There is significant momentum toward a deal that would send Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz from the Seattle Mariners to the New York Mets.
“While they characterise a deal as not done yet, there is an increasing expectation a trade will get finished.”
The Mariners are said to be motivated to let Cano leave because of his mammoth contract.
Cano will receive £18.8million ($24million) in each of the next five seasons - a whopping £94million ($120million) in total.
The MLB star signed a 10-year deal back in 2014 for the Mets.
Jarred Kelenic and right-hander Justin Dunn could be included in the trade deal for Cano.
Fox reporter Ken Rosenthal gave an update on the Cano-Diaz talks on social media.
He posted: “Source: Two former first-round picks are among the #Mets prospects under discussion in talks with #Mariners for Cano-Diaz: OF Jarred Kelenic, 6th overall in 2018, and RHP Justin Dunn, 19th overall in ‘16.
“‘Significant momentum’ in talks, per @JeffPassan.”
The Mets finished fourth in the overall standings last season.
