Anthony Rizzo: Chicago Cubs star makes huge MLB claim
CHICAGO CUBS star Anthony Rizzo says the 162-game Major League Baseball season is too long.
Anthony Rizzo believes the MLB season is too long
First baseman Rizzo believes a reduced campaign would improve the sport, despite the likely financial impact.
“I think we play too much baseball,” Rizzo said on Chicago radio station WMVP-AM.
“Yes, guys are going to take pay cuts but are we playing this game for the money or do we love this game? I know it’s both, but in the long run it will make everything better.”
The Cubs’ last two games have been postponed due to plunging temperates in Chicago.
And Rizzo, who returns to the Cubs’ line up against the St. Louis Cardinals after being brought off the disabled list, believes starting the season later in the year would lead to fewer postponements.

I think we play too much baseball
“I think playing in the cold sucks,” he said. “I was thinking about this the other day.
“When you think of Cubs and Cardinals, you think of a beautiful Saturday at Wrigley Field.
“You don’t think about playing in 20 degrees.”

Rizzo believes another potential solution would be to increase the number of doubleheaders during the season.
“In a perfect world, we’d start the season later and play a few scheduled doubleheaders going into an off day,” he said.
“As a fan you’re going to a baseball game in April, and it’s raining, snowing and [with] freezing rain. Is it really that much fun? That’s my question.”
