Anthony Davis: Pelicans coach provides trade update amid Lakers and Celtics rumours
NEW ORLEANS PELICANS head coach Alvin Gentry has refused to rule out Anthony Davis leaving the franchise.
Rumours have been rife over recent weeks that Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are locked in a fierce battle for Davis’ signature.
The power forward is one of the leading scorers in the NBA, despite playing in a struggling side who are 12th in the table.
The Lakers are in the market for reinforcements to build a Championship-contending team around LeBron James.
Meanwhile, the Celtics are also trying to break Golden State Warriors’ dominance.
Reports are splits as to which team has the upper-hand in trade negotiations.
But Gentry refused to speak about the future of his star man while the season is in full flow.
“That’s what you guys talk about,” Gentry said of the trade rumours.
“We don’t talk about it. So he’s here.
“He’s playing on our team. We’re trying to win games.
“That’s the only thing that matters right now.”
NBA journalist Chris Sheridan has suggested the Lakers have been chasing Davis for some time.
“I am told that @AntDavis23 to the @Lakers has been in the works for years,” he tweeted.
“That does not mean it is a certainty, because @Celtics can give up much, much more.
“And it all depends on whether the @PelicansNBA are able to beef up their roster between now and February.”
