F3 driver Sophia Floersch flies off race track in HORRIFIC crash
Florsch, driving for Van Amersfoort Racing, almost flew over a barrier in a high-speed collision in Macau.
The German’s car took off into the air after she collided with Sho Tsuboi’s TOM car.
The car is said to have gone through debris fencing and struck a photographers’ bunker before coming to a stop.
Florsch was taken to hospital and she is said to be conscious.
She has since tweeted: “Just wanted to let everybody know that I am fine but will be going into Surgery tomorrow morning.
“Thanks to the @fia and @hwaag_official @MercedesAMGF1 who are taking great care of me.
“Thanks to everybody for the Supporting messages. Update soon.”
Her car ended up landing on its wheels.
Three people - two photographers and a marshal - were injured in the incident.
All three were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
There was a delay of over an hour in Macau before the race got back underway.
There are reports Florsch fractured her spinal cord in the incident.
And messages of support have come in from across the motorsport world.
“All my thoughts are with Sophia Florsch after the accident at Macau. Let’s hope to receive positive news soon ! Keep strong,” tweeted Fernando Alonso.
Jenson Button wrote on twitter: “Sorry to hear that @SophiaFloersch has a spinal fracture but looking at the horrific accident she had today in Macau it could have been so much worse. #getwellsoonSophia”
Florsch, 17, previously raced F4 where she became the first woman to score points in an ADAC Formula 4 race.
She started racing in F3 this year - initially as a test driver for Van Amersfoort Racing - before getting a seat midway through the season.
