NBA news: Warriors coach Steve Kerr pleads with bosses after making LeBron James claim
GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS head coach Steve Kerr has jokingly asked the NBA to not fine him after comparing highly-rated college star Zion Williamson to LeBron James.
LeBron will get Lakers coach Walton fired claims Skip Bayless
NBA coaches are not allowed to publicly discuss college stars who will be available in next year’s trade.
However, the majority of basketball heads were turned last night when Duke Blue Devils put on a dazzling performance with Williamson at the forefront.
The 18-year-old is widely expected to be the first pick next year and Kerr has compared the power forward to James.
The Los Angeles Lakers man has been a star of the NBA ever since being drafted in 2003 and Kerr can see many similarities.
However, he made sure not to name drop the youngster to avoid any repercussions from the league.
“I saw some kid on Duke last night who was pretty impressive,” Kerr said.
“I probably can’t say anything more or mention his name because I’ll get… the one who is 285 [pounds].
“I thought LeBron was a one-shot deal but apparently the next guy is coming.
“Before I get fined I am going to change the subject.
“Adam, please don’t fine me, I don’t mean anything by it.”
The Warriors are back in action against Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night but will still be without summer-signing DeMarcus Cousins.
The former New Orleans Pelicans man has not featured since his switch and Kerr has called for patience in embedding the new addition.
"Conditioning-wise he's still got a ways to go," Kerr said.
"I love how far he's come, but I don't want people to get the idea that he's getting close to coming back.
“It's still going to be some time. It's a totally different deal playing in an NBA game and playing against [assistant coaches] Willie [Green] and Chris DeMarco."
