NBA trade news: Klay Thompson needs Lakers move because of one reason - Paul Pierce
NBA TRADE NEWS - Klay Thompson has been strongly linked with a move to the Los Angeles Lakers and Paul Pierce has explained why he is their best option.
The Lakers have put plans in place to sign a max-contract star in the 2019 free agency market.
Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Thompson, Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler and others could potentially be available with the Lakers likely set to consider all options.
Their interest in Leonard has been well documented over the summer, but they failed to reach an agreement with the San Antonio Spurs.
Leonard instead ended up going to the Toronto Raptors, leaving the Lakers hoping for a deadline trade or causing them to wait until free agency next year.
But ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported yesterday that Thompson will also likely be high on their wish list.
The 28-year-old has spoken openly about his desire to retire with the Golden State Warriors, but they face a big decision next summer when Durant and Thompson will be eligible for max contract.
And Hall of Famer Pierce has explained why the Golden State Warriors star should strongly consider going to the Lakers if they come calling.
“He definitely should be their top target, he’s the perfect compliment to LeBron,” Pierce said on The Jump.
“It’s more of a realistic chance that they can get two of them.
“They can get Kawhi and Klay but Klay fits with LeBron moreso than anybody.
“There’s going to be a time whee Klay says ‘I have enough championships, it’s my time to get the money and if I get the money and be in L.A. … I already have three of four championships at the time and be maxed out…’
“I don’t think he will get maxed out in Golden State.”
