LeBron James had the last laugh on Saturday after aiming an angry response at Dillon Brooks. James was in mesmerising form at the Crypto.com Arena a day earlier as he helped the Los Angeles Lakers defeat Memphis Grizzlies 125-85 to eliminate Brooks’ team.
“Unlike you little [swearing emoji] I’m a grown a** man,” James wrote on Twitter as he channelled some Jay Z lyrics. “Big shoes to fill [swearing emoji], grown a** pants. Prolly hustled with your pops, go ask your parents. It’s apparent you’re staring at a legend. Who, put a few little [swearing emoji] in they place before. Trying to eat without saying they grace before!”
Throughout the NBA first-round series, Brooks had plenty to say about James, with the duo getting involved in a verbal spat during Game 2. After the Grizzlies had won the game 103-93, Brooks said: “I don’t care - he’s old. You know what I mean?
“I was waiting for that. I was expecting him to do that Game 4, Game 5. He wanted to say something when I got my fourth foul. He should have been saying that earlier on. But I poke bears. I don’t respect no one until they come and give me 40.”

James was reluctant to get embroiled in a row during the series, and when asked if he had a response for his rival after Game 2, the 38-year-old said: “No. The game is won in between the four lines. Always has. Always will be.” He then cut his media session short as he hissed: “Tomorrow is going to be a great game. I’m not here for the bulls**t. I’m ready to play - and that’s it.”
James averaged 22.2 points, 11.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game throughout the series. And after another outstanding showing in Game 3, the veteran added: “I’ve been doing this too long. I’ve made enough statements. I don’t need to make statements.”

While James initially kept his opinions to himself when asked by reporters about the trash talk, his team-mate Anthony Davis was happy to address it.
“Obviously, that’s how a lot of times guys kind of get themselves going,” he explained on Friday. “When guys are constantly talking and you don’t say nothing back, they’re going to eventually stop. People are going to talk. We’ve had some trash talk on the court in the series, but all the talk in the media and all that stuff, we just go out and let our game talk and play basketball. We try not to get in a back-and-forth with guys.”
