Tiger Woods reveals what he said to his children in emotional embrace at The Open
TIGER WOODS hopes his children are proud following his impressive display at The Open Championship.
An impressive front-nine, combined with a changing leaderboard at the top, left Woods briefly leading the way as the crowd roared the 14-time major-winner around Carnoustie.
But a costly double-bogey on the 11th dented any real hope he had to end a 10-year wait for a major.
The 42-year-old golf icon finished tied for sixth at five under par as Francesco Molinari claimed his first Open title.
Following his final round of 71, Woods shared a long embrace with his children who were watching on as their father continued his remarkable comeback.
“I told them I tried and I said, ‘Hopefully you’re proud of your pops for trying as hard as I did,’” Woods told the Golf Channel.
“It’s pretty emotional because they gave me some pretty significant hugs there and squeezed.
“I know that they know how much this championship means to me and how much it feels good to be back playing again.
“So, for them to understand what I was doing early in my career, the only thing they’ve seen is my struggles and the pain I was going through.
